Our Story
PawBench started from a simple frustration: pet gear shopping is overwhelming. Every product claims to be “the best,” every brand has five-star reviews, and the stakes feel impossibly high when it’s your pet’s safety and comfort on the line.
So we built what we wished existed: a site that reads the primary sources, real pet owner feedback, and safety data — then layers on our own perspective to cut through the noise. We call out the trade-offs, the edge cases, and the “it depends” nuances that generic review sites skip.
PawBench launched in March 2026and is published by Hilly Shore Labs. Today it covers dog food, beds, toys, harnesses, health, travel and everything else that makes dog ownership a little easier. We research; we don’t run a test lab, and we say so on every guide — see our editorial standards for exactly what we do and don’t do.
How We Review Products
We don’t hands-on test products. Here’s the research process we do run:
Start From Primary Sources
Manufacturer spec sheets, size charts and warranty terms; veterinary and regulatory guidance (AVMA, FDA, AAFCO, AAHA); and the published study itself whenever a product claim rests on one.
Read Real Pet Owner Feedback
Reddit threads, Amazon reviews (the detailed ones), Facebook groups — we dig through the real long-term ownership experiences, not just first impressions.
Check Safety Records
We cross-reference CPSC recall databases, AAFCO standards, and veterinary recommendations. Safety isn't a feature — it's a requirement.
Make a Call
We don't hedge. Every category has a clear #1 pick with specific reasoning. We'd rather be wrong and useful than vague and safe.
