Royal Canin is a Mars brand that meets the WSAVA guidelines we use. It costs about 29 cents an ounce, more than Pro Plan, so it makes sense for picky dogs that refuse pâté.

Hill's Science Diet Senior 7+ is the wet option for older dogs, and the wet page's description names seniors. Hill's says the formula uses easily digestible ingredients, antioxidants and a balanced mineral set for aging hearts and bones. Wet food's extra moisture and softer texture also suit older dogs with dental wear; ask your vet whether a senior formula is the right move for your dog.

Cesar Classic Loaf is the small-dog wet food: 3.5 oz peel-open trays that are one meal for a small dog, labeled complete and balanced for adults, with beef or chicken first depending on the flavor.
