Best Puppy Food

Growth-formula kibble and wet food for puppies up to 12 months.

Buying Guide

Puppy food is specifically formulated with higher protein (25-30%), more fat, and carefully balanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratios to support rapid growth. Feeding adult food to puppies can lead to nutritional deficiencies during their most critical development window.

Large breed puppies (expected adult weight over 50 lbs) need large-breed-specific puppy food with controlled calcium levels. Too much calcium during rapid growth can cause skeletal problems in big dogs. This is one of the few cases where "more nutrition" is genuinely harmful.

Most puppies should transition to adult food between 12-18 months. Small breeds mature faster (9-12 months), while giant breeds may stay on puppy food until 18-24 months. Your vet can help you time the switch based on your dog's growth curve.
