Best Dog Chew Toys

Durable chew toys for aggressive chewers and teething puppies.

Buying Guide

Chew toys serve two purposes: satisfying your dog's natural urge to chew and saving your furniture from destruction. The right chew toy depends entirely on your dog's chew style. "Light chewers" do fine with rubber and nylon. "Power chewers" (pit bulls, labs, shepherds) need heavy-duty rubber or solid nylon — anything less gets shredded in minutes.

Avoid chew toys that are harder than your dog's teeth. A good rule: if you can't make a dent with your fingernail, it's too hard and could crack teeth. This rules out antlers, bones, and some ultra-hard nylons for aggressive chewers. KONG-style natural rubber is the sweet spot — tough enough to last but with enough give to be tooth-safe.

Size matters for safety. A chew toy should be large enough that your dog can't fit the whole thing in their mouth. When toys wear down to a size that could be swallowed, replace them immediately. Budget $10-15 per month for chew toys if you have an aggressive chewer.

The Kong Classic has been the gold standard in chew toys for over four decades, and nothing has come close to dethroning it. Benebone Wishbone Chew (Large)
Runner Up

Benebone Wishbone Chew (Large)

💰 Best Budget
4.5

Benebone solved the biggest problem with flavored chews: the taste actually lasts because real bacon is infused throughout, not just coated on the surface. The wishbone shape lets dogs pin it down and gnaw with purpose, which most other chew toys make frustratingly difficult. Just monitor your dog closely — if they're the type to break off and swallow chunks, this isn't the right pick.

Compare vs #3

Pros

  • Real bacon flavor baked throughout the entire chew
  • Ergonomic wishbone shape is easy for dogs to hold
  • Made in the USA with food-grade ingredients

Cons

  • Not edible — must be replaced when small pieces break off
  • Aggressive chewers can fracture it into sharp pieces

Material
